What is Shock Absorber Replacement?
Shock absorbers, and struts, which combine a shock with a structural spring mount, control how your suspension springs compress and rebound. Without them working properly, your car's springs would keep bouncing long after hitting a bump — shocks are what settle that motion quickly and keep your tyres in contact with the road.
We test for shock wear through a combination of visual inspection, checking for oil leaks, a classic failure sign, and a road test to assess bounce and body control.
Why this matters for your car
Worn shocks don't just feel uncomfortable — they measurably increase stopping distances, because a bouncing tyre isn't gripping the road consistently enough for your brakes or ABS to work at full effectiveness. This is especially important on Bulawayo's uneven road surfaces.
Shocks wear gradually, so most drivers don't notice the decline until they replace them and feel the difference, by which point braking performance and tyre wear have likely already been affected.
What happens if you ignore this?
This isn't scare-mongering — it's what we see time and again when this exact issue is left unaddressed.
Increased stopping distances
A bouncing wheel loses consistent road contact, reducing the effectiveness of braking and ABS systems.
Excessive body roll
Worn shocks allow more body movement during cornering, reducing stability and driver confidence.
Accelerated tyre wear
Bouncing wheels wear tyres unevenly, often described as 'cupping' on the tread surface.
Signs you need this now
If any of these sound familiar, it's worth booking an inspection before the issue progresses.
Excessive bouncing after hitting a bump, rather than settling quickly
The nose dives sharply under braking
Visible oil leaking from the shock or strut body
Cupped or scalloped wear pattern on tyres
Our process
Every job follows the same disciplined sequence — diagnose first, explain clearly, then fix it right.
Visual leak inspection
Each shock or strut is inspected for oil leaks, a primary sign of internal failure.
Bounce test
We test how quickly the suspension settles after being compressed, checking for excess rebound.
Component replacement
Worn shocks or struts are replaced, typically in pairs to maintain even handling.
Road test & alignment check
We confirm improved body control on a road test and check alignment where struts were replaced.
