What is Clutch Replacement?
Clutch replacement addresses a worn or failing clutch assembly — the friction disc, pressure plate, and release bearing that connect your engine's power to a manual gearbox. Like brake pads, the clutch disc is a wear item, designed to slip slightly as it engages, which is exactly why it eventually wears out.
We inspect the full clutch assembly together, not just the friction disc, since a worn pressure plate or release bearing left in place will quickly wear out a brand-new clutch disc too.
Why this matters for your car
A slipping or failing clutch doesn't just affect comfort — it directly limits how much power actually reaches your wheels, and it can leave you unable to drive at all if it fails completely. Because clutch wear is gradual, many drivers unconsciously adapt their driving style around a worsening clutch until it fails.
Catching clutch wear early also protects your gearbox and flywheel from the additional strain a slipping clutch places on them.
What happens if you ignore this?
This isn't scare-mongering — it's what we see time and again when this exact issue is left unaddressed.
Loss of power delivery
A slipping clutch means engine revs rise without a matching increase in road speed, especially under load or on inclines.
Complete drivability failure
A fully failed clutch can leave the vehicle unable to move under its own power.
Flywheel and gearbox strain
A worn clutch places additional heat and wear stress on the flywheel and gearbox input shaft.
Signs you need this now
If any of these sound familiar, it's worth booking an inspection before the issue progresses.
Revs rising without a matching increase in speed
A burning smell, especially after hill starts or heavy traffic
The clutch pedal feels different — higher, lower, or spongier than usual
Difficulty selecting gears or gears slipping out on their own
Our process
Every job follows the same disciplined sequence — diagnose first, explain clearly, then fix it right.
Symptom diagnosis
We confirm the fault is the clutch and not a related gearbox or hydraulic issue.
Gearbox removal
The gearbox is removed to access the full clutch assembly.
Full assembly replacement
The clutch disc, pressure plate, and release bearing are replaced together as a matched kit.
Refitment & road test
The gearbox is refitted and the vehicle road tested to confirm smooth engagement.
